Color Your World - Indigo

Bastet takes pride of place in front of her adoring congregation.

This week’s colour is Indigo. I knew right away that I wanted to use my Bastet figure in the photo, but wasn’t quite sure what scene to set up. Today I had another think about it and decided on creating a small congregation using the Rostani models from Rumbleslam. The angle of the shot doesn’t allow for them to be shown, but there are also some smaller housecat models scattered around them.

Bastet herself is sat atop of one of my model handles for painting, just upside down, so I could have her elevated above the adoring crowd. I also used a couple LEDs to light the scene. I had a white LED in the back giving some backlighting to help bring the models in the foreground out, and I used another white LED as a spotlight on Bastet, focussed on her face. In Photoshop I worked on the crowd separately to Bastet, so I could enhance their colours but still maintain a shadowy look, as Bastet is the main focus. Working on her separately , I altered the levels to give the white fur a much more vibrant white, then working on the eyes to give them a brighter, more vivid colouration, because as standard, the pupil is the same colour as the hair. I could then work on the hair isolated to deepen the shadows and raise the highlights slightly. I also enhanced the gold sections to try and make them look less plastic looking.

I love how she turned out, and the attention is drawn straight to her eyes as they stand out so well against the white fur.
