Do What You Can December
T’was the season!
Hey there! I hope you all had a great Christmas, and are getting ready to have a great New Year as I write this!
December for me is a busy time. In case you missed me saying before, I am a qualified butcher, so December is a tough time to get stuff painted, because of a high work load, longer shifts, and just so much going on. Then there’s the big day of Christmas, which sees in a more chilled time at work, but really, who can be bothered? When I get home from work, I want to veg out and watch some Youtube! I did however get some time set aside to paint a few bits here and there, as well as experiment with something! So let’s take a look!
Ryan Gothling
This is an old TTCombat Black Friday model of a Halfling Vampire Hunter. I wanted to make him a vampire himself, because I love how I paint vampire skin, so now he’s a day-walker, out to defeat the vampires who made him the creature that he is today. As the model came with the gravestone and a mound, I didn’t think it would look right on a clear base, so I opted to use the square base he was supplied with, and I think I made the right choice. He’ll be a great addition to crowds for Half Tilt and Rumbleslam, given that Vampires (and in the case of Rumbleslam, Vampire Hunters) feature in them both.
Halfnator-H4
Halfnator-H4 is a fun model of a cybernetic Halfling armed with a pump action shotgun and bandolier of shells. In his robotic hand he has a pair of sunglasses, and half of his face reveals the robot skull beneath the skin, complete with glowing red eye. I love the TTCombat Black Friday/Cyber Monday models, because they give a great chance to paint some silly models!
Cyber Meeting Monday
And the main silly model is this guy! In 2020, the Cyber Monday poked fun at the Zoom meeting trend of business dress on the top half, and pyjamas on the bottom half, off camera. In this one, our Prince Charming is in a Zoom call with this Princess, however, he’s in his boxers and slippers. I freehanded the hearts and the display on the laptop, but those pink fluffy slippers really make the model.
Experiment!
For this experiment, I wanted to take the altar from the Chisea di San Paternian that I made more Church of Dagon a little bit further. To do this, I added some books and candles, but the candles didn’t look right being stood up as the models were. I got the idea of using UV resin to make a melted wax effect, which I think turned out really well, and makes the candles look even better.
Number Crunching
I tracked all of the models I painted this year and compiled them into a table where I could track how many models were painted each month, which companies made the models, and what percentage those companies made up of the overall number of models.
Of the 349 models painted this year, 97 of them were from TTCombat, which makes 27.79% of the models painted, and the largest number of models from any of the companies. On the other side of the scale is Games Workshop with a single model. An honourable mention goes to Prodos Games, who are no long with us, but I had 6 of the Xenomorphs from their AVP game, which I painted in April.
And a graph for your viewing pleasure!
In February I painted some big models! And that’s not just meaning large ones, but also bigger scales! I learned a lot this past month, and I want to share that with you here!
