Forward March Roundup

What is Forward March?

This month I wanted to get some of my pile of Warhammer stuff done. I’ve had an idea of painting my Kasrkin Kill Team as Necromundan Guard for a while now, and even bringing The Unbroken model from Warhammer+ into it. But my main army are the Necrons, and I had the Hierotek Circle Kill Team built since I got it in the Shadowvaults box on release. So March was an opportunity to get some regiment models on the table!

Necromundan Guard

When it comes to sending your trained humans into the close confines of The Gallowdark Space Hulk, who better than a squad of people who were born and raised in the Hive Cities at litter the surface of Necromunda? The weapon loadouts are mostly weapons you’d see in Necromunda, Hotshot Lasgun and pistols, Longlas, Plasmagun and Power Sword, then there’s the Volleygun, which is a different type of Lasgun, which why isn’t that in Necromunda? It would be a cool special weapon for Van Saar or Escher, who would be the two Houses who would likely produce them.

The Sergeant is the Warhammer+ Unbroken model, and he’s equipped with a Hotshot Laspistol and Powersword, which is a legal loadout for the Kill Team’s Sergeant. I used a Cadian Transfer for the rank marking on the right shoulder pad, with the Necromundan mark of Helmawr on the left shoulder pad, which came from the Necromunda Enforcer transfer sheet, and the X on the kneepad came from a Space Marine Transfer sheet, which I’m sure most people have a ton of!

The Medic of the Kill Team has a slightly different colour scheme to make them obvious to squadmates, since I doubt the Geneva Convention is upheld in Warhammer 40K. The stripe on the helmet has white borders, and the right shoulder pad has the Medicae Unit marking, which I boosted visibility of by using a white stripe down it. This also makes it easy for players to know what the unit is, because he’s equipped with a standard loadout, with only the backpack and shoulderpad showing he’s a medic. If they aren’t facing you or your opponent, you may not realise which unit you’re looking in.

The Sharpshooter is equipped with a really cool Longlas, which I’d love to make an Escher version of for Necromunda. You don’t get to see the kneepad with the X on it, so that saved a transfer for me, but I did add some Tally marks from the Cadian Transfer Sheet onto the rifle casing. It strikes me as something a Necromundan would do, keeping tally of their kills for bragging rights later in the barracks.

The Plasma gunner really stands out with the bright blue glow of the Plasma coils and barrel.

Here is the full Kill Team! When they’re grouped together, I think they look like a pretty cool force. the dark armour and grey tiger stripe fatigues, broken up by the little pops of colour look really nice.

I made this tutorial for how to apply Waterslide Transfers using one of the models from this Kill Team.

Necron Hierotek Circle

The Necron Kill Team introduced a couple new models, like an alternate Immortal in the form of the Despotek, and the Apprentek, who would make nice alternate Cryptek in Warhammer 40K armies. We also got some alternate heads for Deathmarks, which I think look awesome. I had used a spare head from a Hexmark Destroyer on one of my Deathmarks in my army, as if it was beginning to fall to the Destroyer Curse, since Deathmarks can turn into Hexmark Destroyers, and these alternate heads also make a cool gap bridge if you wanted to give that idea of destroyer curse affliction, or just something different in amongst your army. I have my army painted as Novokh Dynasty.

Here are the Chronomancer and Technomancer. These are both Leader options for the Kill Team, along with the Psychomancer, but I painted my Psychomancer a few years back when I got him. I used Turbo Dork colourshifting paints on the Aeonstave claw piece and orb, and the Timesplinter Mantles. The Technomancer rides on a Necron Spyder, and their cloak is painted using TTCombat golds and gold wash. I absolutely adore how those golds look.

The Necron Despotek is the alternate Immortal with command nodes. On all of the Necron Weapons and eyes, I use Fluorescent paint to make them really stand out and glow under UV lights. I also use it on the bases, which are from TTCombat.

The Necron Apprentek can be a sneaky addition to the Kill Team, allowing them to use line of sight from nearby Crypteks and gaining a re-roll, or even using a Cryptek Ability. This model itself looks quite similar to Kamoteph The Crooked, so he would make a great alternate Crpytek model in itself. The Immortal Guardians are the standard builds of the Immortals with Gauss Blasters, as I already have some Tesla Carbine armed ones painted. The Plasmacytes , Accelerator and Reanimator as in the image, boost the Kill Team, with the Accelerator granting an extra Action Point to the ACL of one Deathmark or Immortal within Blue range, and the Reanimator uses an Action Point to allow a friendly model within Red range to attempt Reanimation.

I used a duplicate Technomancer model and some spare parts from a Doom Scythe to create this Necron Bomb. In Shadowvaults, there is a mission which uses a Bomb as the object to protect/attack. I thought it would be a good idea for the Necrons to have their own piece of tech to fulfil that role, The idea of the bomb being a Captive Wormhole, working like an Exile Cannon, when triggered, blasting the surrounding area through the Wormhole into a dimension beyond the material realm. It is carried into the desired spot by a Canoptek Spyder.

Here are a couple group photos of the models I painted for the Kill Team, including a UV photo, to show the glow of the weapons and eyes that await foes of the Necrons within Tomb Worlds, and across battlefields anywhere in the Galaxy.
