A Change Of Pace
October brought a bit of a change of pace for me. I wasn’t feeling like painting all that much, just feeling a bit run down from it all, so when it came to making a video for the month, I thought I’d dust off the Let’s Play videos, but stick with the horror theme. Don’t Look Back is a particular favourite of mine, and I figured this would be the perfect time to get it under the camera.
To take the video a little bit further, I wanted to make a short film to split up and show between sections of the Let’s Play. I called the short The Familiar, and was inspired by the films of John Carpenter, and used practical effects to accomplish the goal. The only VFX I used were colour correction and combining clips, as I was the sole actor playing two parts, and one scene required the killer and the victim on screen at the same time.
I combined the sections of the Short into one video to release on its own as a standalone short film.
The first image above is from the Let’s Play, with Mia escaping the killer in the back of Ranger Sandy’s car. The other photos are all models I painted this month. The Creeper from Jeepers Creepers, I added a crow to his arm, and made cornstalks using some round sprue. The vampire is an excellent model, and I love the look of it. It looks like it calls on Nosferatu, as well as the vampire from Midnight Mass, giving a very cool style of vampire. The Nun is based on the Conjuring series character, and I painted her skin the same way I paint vampire skin, to give her that otherworldly undead look, I like my vampires to have. Though she isn’t a vampire, it contrasts against the habit well. I also painted Father Gabriel from the Curse of Oak Hill expansion for DLB. I painted two of the mutants from the pack killer set, and as they are Degraw Scientists, I gave them a lab themed base, and based the guy with no arms on the scientists from Half Life. The Aglaope is a Carnevale model by TTCombat. I got this as an extra model because I thought it would make for a great creature to use in Don’t Look Back. For her base, I wanted her to be emerging from a body of water. And the final image is the set of Cultists from the pack killer set. I gave the blade a swap, so it would be a bigger ceremonial blade. I paint all of my cultists to match the Church of Dagon in Carnevale, with the idea that the Tippy Dale cultists are also Dagonite cultists. Adding to the lore of Tippy Dale, I extended the world to include Castleton, a real town in Vermont, near the setting of Tippy Dale. I’ll get further into the lore in a later post, where I go through the world of Tippy Dale.
